Welcome to A Father's Pride!
Being a young person is hard to start with, and being a gay young person is even harder. Gay youth are far more likely to be bullied by their peers, more likely to be rejected by their families, and are far more likely to end up homeless or attempting suicide.
One reason young gay men are more likely to experience tragic outcomes is the strained bond between dad and son. Dads can have a hard time feeling confident when guiding their gay sons; sons can have a hard time approaching their dads, even when dad is open and accepting, because dad doesn't understand life as a gay teen. A Father's Pride seeks to link young gay men with the wisdom that can come from dads and other father figures. By collecting and sharing advice in all areas of life, we can bridge the generational gap. Dads can get a sense of why it might be different for their gay sons. Gay youth can get advice from men who have been where they are. By coming together as a community, we can strengthen the natural bond between father and son, and give gay youth the wisdom, tools, strength and courage they need to be happy, successful adults. Please take some time and give some advice to the young men who so desperately need it. |
